Olympic Gold Beagles is a small hobby located in Manila, Philippines. I actually started showing rotts in 93, but had to stop soon thereafter as I took up my tertiary studies in Vancouver, Canada.
I started my beagle kennel in 2002 upon the arrival of BISS/ Multi RuBIS/ Am Ch Windkist Strike Zone or “Striker,” who was the Philippines’ top hound for 2002 to 2004.
From my first beagle litter, Striker gave me a wonderful daughter, “Bumper” or Multi BIS/ Multi BISS/ Philippine HOF/ Asian Ch Olympic Gold’s First Edition. Bumper created history by becoming the country’s first hound and beagle to become the #1 dog all-breeds in 2006. She was also the country’s #2 dog all-breeds in 2005.
Having won the country’s top award in 2006, I never thought another beagle could equal Bumper’s accomplishments in the ring. I was wrong.
In 2007, Mikey or Multi BIS/ Multi BISS/ Philippine HOF Aust Ch Orobay Back To Reality arrived. Mikey finished as the country’s #4 dog all-breeds, #1 hound and #1 beagle that year. Then in 2008 and 2009, Mikey became the first hound and beagle in the Philippines to become back to back #1 dog all-breeds. As of this writing, March 5, 2010, Mikey has 96 all-breed Best In Shows and 43 Runner Up Best In Shows.
Mikey holds the all-time world record for beagles with the most all-breed best in shows. In the Philippines, no dog has reached 40 all-breed best in shows.
In December, 2009, Mikey went to Long Beach, USA to represent the Philippines in the Eukanuba World Challenge. Mikey made it to the Final 12. To represent the Philippines is already an honor in itself, to make it to the top 12 is a dream come true. Thank You Sir Roberto Velez Pico.
So far, in 2010, Mikey is still the country’s top dog. Our fingers are crossed that Mikey will finish this year as number 1 dog all-breeds.
This year, we welcome with great joy, two adopted “beagles” or should I say pugs from the world famous Woodstock Pugs of Thailand. We would like to thank everyone in Woodstock for entrusting Arnold and Bubu with us.
The year 2009 made it the eighth consecutive year, since our entry into the show beagle world in 2002, that a beagle owned and/or bred by Olympic Gold has become the PCCI’s top hound and beagle. This would never have been possible if not for the breeders who entrusted their lovely dogs to us. To all of you, thank you so much. To all the judges who have appreciated our dogs, thank you so much!
I don't aim to produce the most number of champions as I take pride in breeding selectively, breeding only the best. I'm into dog showing and breeding because of my love for dogs. Breeding is a passion, not a money-making venture. I strive to produce quality champions, giving uttermost importance to producing beagles that are healthy with sound temperaments. Let us earn and provide for our dogs and not the other way around. My goal is to promote ethical, responsible and quality breeding, while advocating responsible ownership. At Olympic Gold, I take pride in breeding to conform to the standard. Quality and not quantity is key.
The year 2006 was significant for all Philippine beagle enthusiasts. It will always be remembered as the year Bumper created history and the year the Beagle Fanciers Club of the Philippines was formed and granted affiliation by the PCCI.
Being one of the most popular breeds in the country, beagles rightfully deserve a breed club to protect its interests. As the club’s founding president, I would like to assure all beagle lovers that we in the club will try to our best to safeguard the best interests of our beloved breed.
